Description
Originally designed and built by M/S Gilbert Gilkes and Gardon of U. K. is a combination of Impulse and Reaction turbine. Its design is based on both the design of Pelton turbine and Francis Turbine. It has multiple nozzles with Guide and runners. Combination of both these turbines helps in bringing down diameter of impulse wheel of pelton turbine.
The turbine consists of SS body with a transparent acrylic window for visual observation of flow on the buckets. Two no’s of brass nozzles, a rotor assembly of shaft, runner connected to the loading unit, all mounted on a sturdy base frame. Both nozzles are located in such a way that, the jet of first nozzle does not disturb jet of other second nozzle. Buckets are designed in special manner.
The turbine is loaded by a rope brake arrangement with a set of dead weights and a spring balance with cooling water facility both mounted on collecting tank.
Other standard accessories include a DOL starter, switch, flow control gate valve, suitable piping.
Flow measuring unit consists of a venturimeter with pressure taps connected to two pressure gauges Water inlet pressure is measured by a pressure gauge. RPM of the turbine are measured using RPM indicator supplied with the setup.
